As global demand for autonomous systems accelerates, Europe is emerging as a sovereign stronghold for uncrewed innovation. From operational urgency in Ukraine to commercial expansion across the UK, France, Germany, Poland and Denmark, the continent is building a resilient ecosystem of OEMs, component suppliers, and sensor integrators that are shaping the future of autonomy.
At ePropelled, we’re proud to support this momentum. With our Innovation and R&D Centre based near Coventry in the UK, we serve as a propulsion partner to platforms across Europe, delivering high-efficiency systems, at early design stage, that meet the demands of endurance, modularity, and mission assurance. Our European footprint complements our global operations, including deep engagement with U.S. defence and commercial markets
Ukraine: Innovation Under Pressure
Ukraine’s defence efforts have transformed the operational landscape for uncrewed systems.
With drone production scaling rapidly in 2025 and accelerating further in 2026, Ukraine now plans over seven million drones in 2026 and has the capacity for more than eight million FPV drones annually, the country has become a proving ground for tactical autonomy.
This surge has catalysed industrial partnerships across Europe, with stated ambitions for 10 Ukrainian Drone Factories to Scale Across Europe by 2026. Already, four Ukrainian companies have signed partnership deals with European allies valued at nearly $950 million. Production of Ukrainian designed systems is also expanding across the continent, with new joint manufacturing initiatives in Germany, UK, Latvia and Denmark, reflecting a shift toward distributed, resilient drone production.
The UK’s technology-sharing agreement with Ukraine under Project OCTOPUS enables joint development of interceptor drones, while Poland continues licensed production of Ukrainian platforms like the SHARK UAV’s through ALS Systems.
These developments reflect Europe’s ability to adapt quickly, scale responsibly, and invest strategically in sovereign capability. For propulsion providers like ePropelled, this translates into demand for compact, reliable, and low-signature systems deployable across contested environments.
A Region Shaping Demand
Europe’s uncrewed ecosystem is gaining momentum—not just through policy and procurement, but through a steady rhythm of collaboration and validation. At recent events across the UK, Poland, and Western Europe, ePropelled has witnessed impressive interaction with customers and new connections, underscoring the confidence and ambition driving the region forward.
These engagements reflect a broader truth: European OEMs and integrators are not just responding to demand, they’re shaping it. From ISR drones and loitering munitions to hybrid-electric UGVs and maritime platforms, the appetite for scalable, sovereign solutions is growing.
Investment and Sovereignty
Major players are doubling down on European R&D and manufacturing:
- Anduril Industries has expanded its UK footprint, including plans for a major manufacturing and R&D facility to support European integration of autonomous defence systems.
- Stark Aerospace is investing in European partnerships to scale sensor and payload technologies.
- Germany and France continue to lead in indigenous platform development, with companies like Quantum Systems, Parrot, and Delair driving innovation across defence and commercial sectors.
Meanwhile, homegrown integrators and propulsion specialists are emerging across the continent, offering scalable solutions tailored to European operational needs. ePropelled’s Coventry-based R&D centre plays a key role in supporting these efforts, providing design and engineering support, system integration, data connectivity and certification guidance to European partners.
Dual-Use Innovation
Europe’s strength lies in its ability to bridge defence and commercial applications. From maritime patrol and border surveillance to infrastructure inspection and agricultural monitoring, uncrewed systems are being deployed across sectors with increasing frequency.
This dual-use momentum is supported by EU-level funding, national innovation grants, and a growing appetite for sovereign capability, especially in contested domains like the Arctic, Eastern Europe, and the Mediterranean.
For ePropelled, this convergence of defence and commercial demand aligns perfectly with our product architecture. Our propulsion systems are designed to scale across mission profiles, whether powering a tactical ISR drone or enabling persistent surveillance for critical infrastructure. An important spin-off benefit of dual use to SMEs includes reducing commercial risk, enabling scale of production and ultimately delivering more affordable commercial systems.
ePropelled’s European Partnerships
Our engagement with European OEMs is built on collaboration, responsiveness and shared ambition. We work closely with platform developers at early design stage to tailor propulsion solutions that meet specific performance, integration, and compliance requirements.
This includes:
- Custom starter-generator configurations for hybrid-electric UAVs and UGVs
- Modular power systems designed for rapid swap and field maintenance
- Support for NDAA-compliant sourcing and Blue UAS alignment where applicable (important for exporting to US)
- Engineering collaboration from concept to flight test, including EMI/EMC validation and thermal modelling
- Integrated telemetry and cloud intelligence ecosystem, delivering real-time insight and predictive analytics through ePConnect
Our Coventry-based team provides direct support to European partners, ensuring fast turnaround on design, prototyping, testing, and integration. We engage with defence primes and SMEs alike, recognising that innovation often comes from the intersection of scale and agility.
In Summary
Europe is no longer a secondary theatre in the autonomy story, it’s a sovereign stronghold. With operational urgency, industrial investment, and policy alignment converging, the continent is poised to lead in both innovation and deployment.
At ePropelled, we’re proud to support this momentum. Our propulsion systems are embedded in platforms that span land, sea, and air, delivering the power behind Europe’s autonomous future. With a global footprint and a UK-based innovation centre, we remain committed to enabling mission-ready performance across defence and commercial domains.
